I’m a cat lady not just because I have a cat, but because I love everything related to cats. The only funny videos that catch my attention on YouTube are the ones starring cats, I smile every time I see a cat on the street, I own multiple cat themed items – as the picture above illustrates (t-shirts, jewelry, home décor objects, socks)… So, I consider myself a CAT LADY.
But I refuse to fall prey to the “crazy cat lady” stereotype. The term “crazy cat lady” has become synonymous with hoarding, loneliness and depression, and nearly 49% of Americans buy into this stereotype, according to a survey by PetSmart Charities.
Well, I’ve got some news for you: the modern cat lady is just the girl next door who wears her cat-fur-free black clothing as a badge of honor. She may be single or married, a stay-at-home mom or a career-driven person – the only thing all cat ladies have in common is their love for cats.
And the funniest thing is, that despite some prejudice surrounding the term “cat lady”, cats rule the Internet! This Internet’s cat obsession is the proof that millions of people around the world love to watch cat videos and pictures.
So, I’m a cat lady and proud of it! What about you, what are your feelings about these issues?
