It’s time to interview another feline fashionista here at Cat Lady Confidential.
Today we are interviewing Katryna from Boots and Cats, a blogger fascinated by fabrics, textures, colors, shapes (and cats).
Where do you live? I live in western Canada, in the flat prairies of Alberta but only a few hours from the Rocky Mountains.
Tells us a bit more about yourself.
Well I have been sewing since I was about 14 years old, my grandmother taught me during summer vacations. I graduated university with a degree in Clothing & Textiles actually. I love to dabble in all types of creative hobbies outside sewing; photography, scrapbooking, calligraphy, DIY, etc. I spend my days creating content and marketing for a locally owned beauty boutique which is always fun and exciting. I am very lucky to be able to be creative in so many aspects of my life.
When did you start blogging and what is your blog about?
I started my blog in the spring of 2013 after wanting to start it for ages but never taking the leap. A workshop called BlogShop came to Vancouver that year (which was the closest it was probably ever going to get to me), so I used that as motivation to just launch it and then attend. I started talking mostly about crafts and DIY but have focused more on the garment sewing aspect in the last year and that has become the majority of my content.
What inspired you to start your blog?
I was inspired to start blogging because I was so immersed in all the other growing blogs of the time, DesignLoveFest and A Beautiful Mess especially and it just seemed like something really fun to do, and it gave me an excuse to be creative and make things whenever I wanted. Once I started I found it also kept me responsible to keep going and not be so lazy haha.
When did you learn about your passion for cats?
I have honestly loved cats for as long as I can remember. In second grade I can remember checking out all the books about cats from the school library. I loved their cute fuzzy faces and how chill they would be around me as opposed to dogs who would always jump on me!
You had a beautiful cat named Cinnamon. What can you tell us about her?
Sadly, Cinnamon passed away this past spring after 16 wonderful years. When I was 8, she appeared running around in our house wearing a red bow on Christmas and she was a rambunctious part of my life since then. She was a fluffy orange ball of fun. When she was little she got into many messes, climbing anything she could find, like our Christmas tree and even our basement ceiling. She could be grumpy at times, but was always down for a cuddle (on her terms of course) and had a strange affinity for Enrique Iglesias.
Sometimes your love for cats seems to inspire your outfits. What is your favorite kitty inspired outfit that you’ve posted so far?
I am so happy that cats have become such a trend because I love incorporating them into my clothes. My favorite has been the cat print Belladone dress I made that paired (perhaps a little too crazily) with some kitty face stockings.
What fashion advice would you give to cat ladies who like to show off their love for cats through clothing?
I love it best when the cat craziness is a little more subtle, like in the print of the fabric, where it takes a second to realize you are covered in cats head to toe.
Mister Cat and I would like to thank Katryna for accepting our invitation for this interview. Thank you so much!
